Safety & Our Guides
We can say with confidence that North Woods Rafting guides are the most highly trained raft guides on the Androscoggin River. While the state of NH does not regulate white water rafting guides, our training is modeled after the nationally recognized standards set by the State of Maine. Guides are trained for ten days in white water rescue, water reading skills, paddling techniques, first aid and customer service!
Lincoln, the co-owner of North Woods Rafting is an American Canoe Association swiftwater rescue trainer and a registered Maine guide (NH has no certification process). He has personally trained all of North Woods Rafting’s guides and is on most of our trips himself to ensure safety and quality. (He also has a great sense of humor and can make a trip a lot of fun! Every North Woods Rafting trip has a guide who is in at least their 3rd year of guiding as trip leader. They all go through a 10 day intensive training program which is a lot like boot camp! The training includes the swiftwater rescue class mentioned above as well as first aid, CPR and advanced paddling and guide skills. We pride ourselves on our committment to safety!

- Lincoln Robertson is a co-owner of North Woods Rafting, along with his wife, Heather Piche. Lincoln has an extensive amount of white-water experience. He has been paddling kayaks since 1983. In 1996, he worked for Nova Guides in Colorado. He is a man who is so passionate about white-water that you’ll often see him paddling in January. “Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing — absolutely nothing — half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats.” -Kenneth Grahame

- Heather Piché is a co-owner of North Woods Rafting, along with her husband, Lincoln Robertson. The couple started the company in 2002, and they have been showing guests a “wicked good time” on the Androscoggin River since the company began. Heather usually won’t be on the river with you, but her voice will often be the one helping you with your reservations!

- This is Derek’s third year with North Woods Rafting and we loved him so much, we made him Manager. Derek has been paddling since 1996 and has worked on the Animus and Arkansas Rivers in Colorado and the Deschutes River in Oregon.

- Lynn is a favorite of our guests and our staff! Nicknamed “mailbox” for her excellent skills backing up vehicles, Lynn started with North Woods Rafting in 2008. She is currently studying finance in college and also maintains Milan Hill State Park during the summer.

- Brandy has been working for North Woods Rafting since 2008. She loves rafting so much that, even though she works full time in Human Services, she reserves one day a week for North Woods Rafting and we couldn’t be happier!

- Josh joined the North Woods Rafting team in 2009. He’s been a phenomenal addition to our family! Josh is studying to be a teacher and is in a serious competition with Crystal for silliest guide photo!

- Crystal is a college student who has a magnetic personality! She’s not afraid to be silly and have fun, but she is a talented paddler and knows how to keep our guests safe!

- Kindergarten teacher, hiker, outdoor enthusiast…Gerry is a spectacular new addition to North Woods Rafting’s staff in 2011! She’s terrific with kids and adults alike!

- This is Morgan’s first year at North Woods Rafting. She is studying to be a teacher and loves concerts! You’re going to love having Morgan guiding your boat!

- Tally started working for North Woods Rafting in 2011. She is studying microbiology and hopes to be a doctor someday. She is an avid hiker and now loves the rivers, too!
